Summer is finally here! This issue of the UCP Kids eNewsletter has some great information and strategies for summertime fun! Be sure to check out:

Include!

 

The Mars Alliance Upward Basketball League states that they seek to develop character in every player by providing an equal opportunity for improvement, while stressing sportsmanship in every situation. Read more about Upward sports and their belief that Every Child is a Winner!

 

 

Play is a critical part of a child's development emotionally, cognitively and, of course, physically. Playing helps children stay physically fit and helps to improve one's endurance, flexibility and strength. This article explores web resources intended to promote and encourage physical activity for children with all abilities. Enjoy the article and websites, but as the article suggests, dont spend too much time on-line. Go outside and get physically active!

UCP Kids Congratulates

Mark Steidl!

According to Tina Calabro, a longtime friend of UCP Kids, her son Mark is a pretty typical kid. He loves music, being outside with friends, and is an honor student who taught himself to read at age 4. Oh yeah, Mark also happens to have cerebral palsy.

Summer is here! Chants of No more teachers, no more books echoes through many minds of students, yet summer reading is as necessary as sun block for the sunshiny days ahead. This article shares strategies for encouraging a love of reading, even in the summer.

Is it time to make the switch from your pediatrician to a family physician? Do you know the age in which your provider encourages patients to transition to an adult provider?  Many young people with special health care needs (SHCN) and disabilities can live independently as adults, but some need guidance and support. This article and the personal account that follows, summarize what families should know about the transition from Pediatrician to Primary Care Physician (PCP) and how to navigate the health care system.
